What does a a 'righteous' woman's life look like, how does she act, what does she focus her time on ... join me to find out.

Welcome to the 'Principles Righteous Woman Live By' post. Have you wondered what exactly characterizes a righteous woman, do you strive daily to grow into becoming a beautiful, #righteous woman of God? As I read my Bible each day, I list any #principles that relate to 'righteous living' and then consider how I can implement and practice these in my daily life.

Delve in further with me, and let us investigate what it would take to change our lives, and grow in grace and righteousness by applying these @biblical principles

It's more important to be righteous than to be right.

'Righteous' versus 'Self-Righteous'

  • Firstly, what does the word 'righteous' actually mean from a Christian perspective? From a worldly perspective, it sounds slightly pretentious and stuffy? Secondly, how does it differ from 'self-righteous'?

  • Self-righteous, as the word implies, is all about 'self'. Whilst, Righteous is all about God working through us and in us moulding us into a person of righteousness, thus this trait is not born of or by our own strength or efforts. However, in saying this, we can aspire to live a righteous life, but we must profess Christ as our Lord and Saviour to enable us to live such a life.

  • Synonyms for 'self-righteous' include words like sanctimonious, self-satisfied, holier-than-thou - it's basically, when we focus on ourselves and how 'right' we think we are living. Synonyms for 'righteous' include lovely words such as principled, virtuous, ethical, decent and honest. Which would you rather be referred to as? Personally, I prefer the latter to be a description of my standing in this world.

5 Principles To Start Living a Righteous Life

  1. She submits and obeys her husband (whether he is a Christ follower or not). The word 'submit' has becoming such a dirty word in today's culture and this is such a shame. I will not go into the principle of submission in depth in this post (but will delve into this subject in a later post), but suffice to say this is a picture of us submitting to Christ. (Eph 5:22).

  2. She knows not to 'sip lattes' with ungodly people and seek their ungodly counsel about life matters. A righteous woman knows to only share her business with, and seek advice from godly sources (Psalm 6).

  3. A righteous woman is not afraid to be counter-cultural by walking the narrow path and not the wide path, even thought she may be unpopular. She does not 'walk' in the path she does not belong (Psalm 6, Matthew 7:13) The righteous woman knows God's path, is familiar with it, loves to travel on it because it is a 'good' path. (Psalm 16:11)

  4. She 'delights' in God's Word and plans to make reading it a priority in her day. She fills her mind and her mouth with His Word and applies God's Word to her life (Psalm 6)

  5. The righteous woman finds a time during her day to quieten and submit to Jesus and seeks Him passionately in regular prayer. She seeks His counsel, His ways and lays her troubles at His throne as well as intervening for other people.

Are you following or implementing the above principles in your life, I must be frank, I need to rethink my life choices and paths myself! This is a good reminder of how us Christian women should be living - it so easy to forget or neglect when we are busy with careers and family - but unless, Christ comes first in our every day lives, we strive against Him and do not abide in Him!

Yours Graciously
